The NRM Council consists of 12 people with skills and knowledge in the many areas of sustainable NRM, appointed by the Minister for Agriculture and Food. The NRM Council includes the six Regional NRM Group Chairs. The Directors-General from CONRACE (Council of Natural Resource Agency Chief Executives) also sit in attendance.

The first meeting of the newly revamped NRM Council was held on 4 September 2007. The Council meets on a bi-monthly basis, or more regularly if required. Communiqués are produced for each meeting:
