Welcome to the State Natural Resource Management Office(SNRMO) in Western Australia.
This site is run by the SNRMO a 'one-stop' shop or portal for all major NRM groups (Government, Regions, Communities and Business) and activities and to keep people informed about Natural Resource Management (NRM).
NRM involves:
- Ecologically sustainable management of land, water, air and biodiversity
- Benefits for existing and future generations
- Maintenance of life support capability of the biosphere
The goal of NRM in Western Australia is:
Conservation and sustainable management of the State’s natural resources,
with efficient and effective partnerships between all levels of Government,
industry and the community.
To achieve this goal the Government of Western Australia works with the WA NRM Council, the State NRM Office as well as other Government Agencies.
The State partners with WA’s six regional groups representing local communities and interested groups such as conservationists, industry, and farmers.
Supported by the best available science, these regional NRM groups have drawn up long-term strategies and funding plans (investment plans) to address regional and local environmental issues.
The outcomes of each regions strategies and investment plans are monitored and evaluated to make sure that Western Australia's NRM goal is being achieved in the most effective and efficient way.
While NRM is about natural resources, it is really about people – raising awareness as to the benefits of participating in NRM.
The State also partners with the Australian Government.
The money for these activities is being made available through the Government of Western Australia and Australian Government funding under the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (NAP), as well as the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT)
These two programs should result in more than $400 million being spent in Western Australia on NRM to 1 July 2008.
