Record of Community Consultation on the State NRM Plan (June to September, 2008)
Community consultation on the State Natural Resource Management (NRM) Plan has been finalised and a final draft of the Plan endorsed by the Council of Natural Resource Agency Chief Executives (CONRACE) and forwarded to the Minister for Agriculture and Food for him to consider jointly with his NRM Ministerial colleagues.
More than 50 written submissions were received and 179 people attended a series of regional forums throughout Western Australia.
All feedback received has been collated, with appropriate responses determined and the Plan amended accordingly. This has greatly assisted in drafting a final version of the Plan, and we thank all respondents for the time and effort they put in to provide the drafting team with advice.
In the interests of transparency, all feedback provided during the consultation period is available to download [24MB PDF]. In addition, a summary of submissions and outline of how they have been accommodated in the revised Plan can be found at Consultation Summary and Responses document [385KB PDF].
Please note that the Public Comment Document containing full submissions is large (24 Mb) and those with slow Internet connections will find it difficult to download. If you would like a full hard copy of the submissions please call Cathy Lyons at the State NRM Office on (08) 9368 3198.

A number of State plans, policies and strategies have been drawn on to develop the Plan and will be important vehicles for its implementation.
The Plan is designed to build on these and provide linkages between them. For example, the Agency Statement of Important NRM Assets (2006, unpublished), which is
referred to in the Plan and is currently under review, will eventually be an attachment to the Plan highlighting the Government's NRM priorities. The Agency Statement is attached below.
For your reference and to assist in providing feedback on the State NRM Plan, links to a number of State Government documents referred to in the NRM Plan are provided below.

- Western Australian State Sustainability Strategy (2003) which provides a definition and vision for NRM as well as a set of overarching NRM goals.
- Better Planning: Better Futures - A Framework for the Strategic Management of the Western Australian Public Sector (2006) at http://www.dpc.wa.gov.au/psmd/pubs/psrd/BPBF_web.pdf, which has strong synergy with the NRM Plan, outlining goals and strategic actions for sustainability, community participation and regional development.
- State of the Environment Report Western Australia (2007) at http://www.soe.wa.gov.au/, which highlights the key environmental threats facing Western Australia and provides a number of responses to address these.
- Position Statement 8, Environmental Protection in Natural Resource Management (2005) at http://www.epa.wa.gov.au/docs/2134_PS8.pdf outlines an adaptive management framework, which the Plan is also based on. Adaptive management is proposed as a major principle to underpin NRM in Western Australia.
